Yes, the truth is not as pretty as they make it seem on “Grey’s Anatomy”. When a person gets a kidney transplant, they almost always leave the old kidney to rot inside your body. Hey, I would still choose that over having to get dialysis treatments every other week for the rest of my life.
2. Anne Frank and Martin Luther King Jr. were born in the same year.
Crazy to think these two amazing people – one the voice of the millions who died in the Holocaust and the other the most powerful civil rights activists in history – were born in the same year.
3. From the time it was discovered to the time it was stripped of its status as a planet, Pluto had not made a full trip around the sun.
Poor, Pluto. It takes the little guy 247.8 years to make a full trip around the sun. It’s okay though, Pluto, you’re still a planet in my heart.
4. Can openers were not invented until 50 years after the invention of the can.
Looks like until 1885, most people had to use a knife or even their teeth to open cans of preserved foods. Makes you more appreciative of the luxuries we have today, doesn’t it?
5. The American Civil War started in a man’s backyard and ended in that same man’s parlor room.
The man this fact is referring to is Wilmer McLean. The Battle of Bull Run, which officially started the war, happened on Mclean’s Farm in 1861. Later in 1865, Mclean’s parlor was used for Confederate General Robert E. Lee to surrender to Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant.
“I learned about this last year in history, but I didn’t realize it was the same man. That is so cool,” said junior Maryluz Carvajal.
6. If you have 23 people in a room, there is a 50 percent chance that two of them have the same birthday.
Try this out next time you are in class; you might be surprised and find out someone has the same birthday as you!
6. Less time separates the existence of humans and the Tyrannosaurus Rex than the T-Rex and the Stegosaurus.
It is true – the Stegosaurus lived 155 million years ago, while the T-Rex lived only 67 million years ago.
“I was not expecting that! I definitely thought it was the other way around. You learn something new everyday,” said senior Kelsey Rudowitz.
7. There are thousands of micro tumors in your body right now and they only need correct conditions to become cancerous.
OK, I know this one is kind of scary, but it is very unlikely that these “correct conditions” actually form, so no need to be anxious. Living a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and a nutritious diet will lower the risk for health problems, including cancer.
8. Both of your eyes have a large blind spot. Your brain is just clever enough to fill it in with whatever it thinks should be there in the first place.

9. The 10th President of the United States has two living grandsons.
And yes, they are pretty old. President Tyler, who served as president from 1841 to 1845, still has two living grandsons. One of these grandchildren, Harrison Ruffin Tyler, explained that both his father and his grandfather married twice and had children when they were in their 70s, which explains why the grandsons are still around today.
10. Saudi Arabia imports camels from Australia.
When I think of Australia, camels are not the first thing to come to mind! While it is surprising that Saudi Arabia, which has the perfect climate for camels to live in, has to import them from Australia, it is believable. The country is rich in exotic animals, such as the Koala Bear and the Kangaroo.
