Happy Leif Erikson Day! Hinger-dinga-derga! Although many believe this holiday is made up from the popular scene from Spongebob Squarepants, the holiday is an actual federally recognized holiday.
Every year on October 9, the sitting president gives a proclamation praising the efforts of the Nordic communities for settling in North America before Columbus. Some states in the Midwest even commemorate the holiday, since many people from Nordic counties settled in this area.
So put on your fake beards and kilts and holler for Leif Erikson Day!
