TLC has cancelled its hit, controversial television show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”. The sudden cancellation came to be after rumors spread that June Shannon, Honey Boo Boo’s mother was dating a convicted child molester.
America cried its most distressed wail at the news of this tragic loss, but things got really bad when the story developed further. Apparently, Mama June’s new child molester flame victimized June’s then eight-year-old daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell. Cardwell, now 20, went on record saying that she feels “betrayed” by her mother for rekindling this relationship.
Not only that, but now Uncle Poodle ain’t gonna get his paycheck from the season they just filmed!
Now, on a serious note, this entire situation is completely and utterly screwed up. I have never been a parent, but I know enough to know that it is probably a bad idea to date your child’s former sexual offender. Actually, as a parent in general, it is probably a bad idea to date a sexual offender. If the relationship rumors turn out to be true, I genuinely worry for the safety of Alana, or “Honey Boo Boo”, as she is only eight years old.
“Honestly, things like this just really make me angry. Parents are supposed to put their children first, and this is an extreme case in which one mother is not doing her job. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that this lady is first of all exploiting her children like this, and second of all ruining them further with this scandal,” says senior Liz Marchese.
On a large scale, this shows the problem of parents not putting their children first. I am not saying that children should consume every ounce of their parents’ lives, but having a child is a huge responsibility. Any choice a parent makes directly affects their children. Not everyone should be a lawyer, not everyone should be a teacher, and not everyone should be a parent.
Additionally, Mama June needs to begin taking into account that her whole life will be blasted in the media. Since the show first aired, America has had an inappropriate and cruel fascination with this family, finding pleasure in mocking their lifestyle.
With this kind of attention on her family, Mama June needs to keep scandals to a minimum. With Alana growing up with this kind of negative attention, she will be in therapy by the time she is a preteen. We do not get to choose who our parents are, or how or where we grow up, and that is very unfortunate.
“I always feel bad for the kids on reality television. Like the kids on ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ whose parents are going to jail. Their whole lives have been on blast, and now they’re probably going to get made fun of in school because the whole world knows their parents are scumbags. It’s just irresponsible,” said senior Anne Ballman.
There is no right and wrong way to raise a child, but would you ever agree to be on a reality show? With your children?
