‘Kiss Me Quick’ steals the hearts of fans and the music industry

With killer vocals and a charming smile, Nathan Sykes has taken the music industry by storm. The 22-year-old and former member of “The Wanted” recently released a single called “Kiss Me Quick” off his debut solo EP “Over and Over,” which will be released later this year.

The native Brit’s singing career began early in his life. At only six years old, Sykes began entering and winning many talent competitions.

In 2009, at 16 years old, he auditioned for the boyband “The Wanted” and became the youngest member of the band. Along with the other four members, – Max A. George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, and Jay McGuiness – the band released two EPs and three albums, and premiered in the show “The Wanted Life” on E! Network.

“Not gonna lie, I actually really liked [The Wanted’s] music and when they broke up I was really upset,” says senior Connor Santiago.

After five years and one short season on television, the band decided to take a break to “pursue personal endeavors.” Sykes was already featured on some tracks as a solo artist, including Ariana Grande’s song “Almost Is Never Enough,” which was featured in the movie “Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”.

In 2014, Sykes was signed to Global Records and began his solo career. He released his first single, “Kiss Me Quick” in May 2015 and its video came out two months later.

“[‘Kiss Me Quick’] is basically my way of flirting. I’m really bad at flirting in general so this song does it for me,” says Sykes.

The song has a flirty, feel-good vibe and lyrics that stay stuck in your head the whole day.

Making his debut as a solo artist was hard, he says, but a lot of the fans from “The Wanted” have followed him through his journey.

“Ever since he dated Ariana Grande and sang with her in 2013, I’ve been obsessed with him and his music. When ‘Kiss Me Quick’ finally came out, I couldn’t stop listening to it,” says senior Lauren Moss.

Sykes’ cool style and amazing voice dazzled the music industry while he was in “The Wanted,” and now he has taken it a step further with his EP “Over and Over” and upcoming album. We cannot wait to see what he has in store for the fans and the world.
