One Direction’s third album “Midnight Memories” leaked a week before its official release date, leaving fans in a craze.
At midnight on Monday, November 18, fans of the pop sensations One Direction were going absolutely crazy. On Monday, one of the tracks was expected to be released to fans who pre-ordered the album.
While trying to figure out when the track would be released, which ended up being later on in the day, fans somehow got their hands onto the leaked album.
Weeks ago, directioners (One Direction’s fan base) leaked a track from the album, titled “Diana.” Little did the fans realize, their persistence to finding the tracks would pay off.
“‘Best Song Ever,’ ‘Diana,’ and ‘Story of My Life’ are completely different from songs in the band’s previous albums. When I heard the other 15 tracks off of the new album, I was overwhelmed. These songs are much more mature than the tracks on their previous albums,” says junior Hiral Patel.
After discovering the album leak, Niall Horan, the only Irishman in the band, tweeted to his 15.7 million followers, “That’s annoying!”
None of the other band members, including Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, have spoken about the album leak.
Although the band has kept quiet about their excitement and disappointment of the leaked album, their fan base as done the complete opposite.
Throughout the day, fans were uploading and sharing links to the new songs with one another. By the end of the day, the majority of the leaked tracks were deleted off of Youtube due to copyright, but that did not stop directioners from spreading the new songs as fast as a wildfire.
“I managed to download 15 of the 18 songs onto my phone before school, which helped me get through the day. When I arrived home, none of the Youtube videos were working, but thankfully, tumblr had my back. Fans posted audios of the new songs on their blogs, and I was able to download the songs,” said an anonymous student.
“Story of My Life” and “Best Song Ever” are two tracks that have been released off of the new album. Fans went crazy for the singles, and the album could not come at a better time.
“Strong” is a song that seems to be about the band members and their girlfriends; it was even co-written by Tomlinson’s girlfriend, Eleanor Calder. However, many fans relate the lyrics to the band, including a few lines from the chorus: “You make me strong. I’m sorry if I say I need ya, but I don’t care, I’m not scared of love. ‘Cause when I’m not with you I’m weaker. Is that so wrong? Is it so wrong?”
“Does He Know” starts off with a sound identical to “Jessie’s Girl.” The song is pop and predictable of the boy band. “Does He Know” is less mature than other songs included in the album, like “Little White Lies.”
Just because “liking boybands is uncool” does not mean that you should not give “Midnight Memories” a chance! The album is one of the best works the band has ever completed.
So, what do you say? Are you going to give the biggest boy band in the world a chance and buy their latest tracks on November 25, when they are officially released?
