Barney’s New York has a yearly elaborate holiday campaign, and this year, it happens to be seductive Mickey Mouse characters.
This campaign is different than anything Barney’s has ever done before. The purpose of it is to turn everybody’s favorite Disney characters, such as Minnie Mouse and Goofy, into high-fashion runway supermodels.
For the 2012 season, Barney’s New York has teamed up with Disney Co. to create the campaign entitled “Electric Holiday.” The campaign will begin on November 14 with an extravagant window display in Barney’s New York. This display includes an elaborate three-dimensional light show in a moving-art short film.
Earlier this year in March, six Barney’s New York executives visited Disneyland for motivation. They even toured Walt Disney’s apartment and rode the roller coasters in the amusement park for “inspiration.”
The concept was centered around Minnie Mouse and her fantasy to be a part of Paris fashion shows. Minnie is dressed by Alber Elbaz. Mickey Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Cruella de Vil, Princess Tiana, and Snow White are all also dressed by high-end designers as well.
The theme of this campaign has stirred much controversy. Parents are shocked that the characters their children grow up watching and looking up to are suddenly half-naked and anorexic looking. Although peoples’ opinions vary, one thing is for sure – this campaign is like no other Barney’s New York has done before.
