Celebrities have had a heavy impact on fragrances in the year of 2012 as they launch to compete for the best selling perfume. Selena Gomez recently came out with her first ever fragrance named after herself. The 19-year-old pop star created a contest so that her fans could help her choose the scents that would be used in the perfume. The results were 55 percent raspberry for the top, 52 percent purple freesia for the heart, and 72 percent vanilla for the base. “They’re the ones wearing it, so I trust them – their opinions and everything that they’ve done for me,” said Gomez to Us Weekly. The purple bottle itself is very feminine and rather large with little gold and lavender lips exploding out of the top. While Gomez was coming out with her fragrance, so was Rihanna. After the success of her first fragrance, Reb’l Fleur, Rihanna launched a new version, titled Rebelle. “My new fragrance is about taking control but still being a lady. There’s a feminine, romantic element to the fragrance – but there’s also a defiant quality in it. I love its duality,” said Rihanna. She posted a video poll on her website, asking her fans if they are more of a rebel or a flower, and rebel won. Rebelle was the name that was given to the fragrance because Rihanna’s grandmother used to call her Rebel Flower. The new fragrance is less “dark” than the first fragrance. The scents include strawberry, ginger, and plum as the top, vanilla orchard, heliotrope, and cacao as the heart, and musk, amber, coffee, and patchouli as the base. The bottle of this perfume is the exact same as Reb’l Fleur, in the shape of a stiletto heel, but what makes the two containers different is that Rebelle has a ribbon design with gold and red layering. “I love the way the perfume looks. It could not be any more elegant,” said freshman Deanna Fisher. Kim Kardashian finally released her fourth fragrance, True Reflection. The top of this scent are Italian bergamot, plum, and peach. The heart is made with night blooming gardenia, chocolate orchid, and lotus flower. The base contains a mix of textured woods, patchouli, and skin musk. The bottle of this brand new fragrance highlights the complex notes that embrace the full scope of a woman’s life. Beyoncé launched a summer limited-edition fragrance, Pulse Summer Edition, which has a flirtier take on the original Pulse. Instead of the bold blue color that the first Pulse took on, the summer edition, however, took a revolution on a hint of pink. The bottle was inspired by Beyoncé’s stage costumes, which includes a revolutionary chrome cap, with a bold pink logo to represent the summer season. The top notes of this gorgeous summer day scent, included pear, icy mandarin, and pink pepper. The heart has ginger orchid, jasmine, and Tunisian orange flowers. Lastly, the base has scents of sapphire woods, musk, and benzoin. “Beyoncé’s new perfume smells incredible, way better than the first one. It makes me think of summer,” said freshman Kirsten Pasewaldt. Jennifer Lopez is taking on her 18th scent, Glowing. This fragrance is an evolution of her first perfume, Glow. “This is a very woodsy scent. So it’s not exactly what I created 10 years ago, it’s the evolution of that. At the essence, it’s still natural, earthy, clean and real, but a little different side of that. It’s the woodsy side of it, which I think is kind of New York-y, darker and sexier,” said Lopez. Each of these fragrances has their own special uniqueness. The popularity of these scents depends on the people who love a more elegant vibe, or crave the sweet summer floral of the season.
