Based on the novel by Matthew Quick, “Silver Linings Playbook” tells the story of two mentally ill people who discover love.
This movie is about Pat Solitano, played by Bradley Cooper, who has bipolar disorder and is checked out from a mental health institution and moves into his parents’ home after eight months of treatment.
Altogether, this movie was absolutely heartwarming; it really showed how twisted and confusing the roles were. The way the movie was filmed was fantastic. You really got to understand the characters.
Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence played their roles perfectly. The bond between them was absoutely incredible, and very entertaining. This movie is a romantic-comedy, so there were tons of parts where you would experience laughter.
Cooper discovers his wife has moved away, and his father is out of work and is trying to the get money for a restaurant. Pat is determined to get his life back together and patch things up with his wife Nikki, who filed a restraining order against him after a scene he had caused.
Cooper’s performance was so heartwarming, reflecting all the difficult things he was dealing with and all his dramatic episodes. He acted so determined, the character just felt so real.
“Well I feel Bradley Cooper is a well noted actor. He has been in a variety of movies and shows and I am a big fan of his acting considering the fact that he adds real emotion, comedy, and passion to his acting,” said sophomore Alexa Rizzo.
Lawrence plays Tiffany Maxwell, a young widow who lost her job and is a recovering sex addict. For this role, she acts fierce and strong, and sometimes crazy.
At first, she is made out to be someone who does not have much emotion, but toward the end, you see her crazy, emotional side. Every line, every scene was absolutely interesting and hilarious. By the end of the movie, Lawrence literally became the character played.
“I think Jennifer Lawrence is a wonderful actress. Also, I love that she doesn’t care what people think about her and embraces her flaws and makes them beautiful. Every performance she gives is just more than amazing,” said sophomore Catarina Santo.
Another incredible performance was, of course, from Robert De Niro. De Niro plays Cooper’s father who is trying his hardest to keep his child sane and patient, meanwhile pursing his own dreams of opening a restaurant. Like always, his acting is absolutely spectacular, and always has real emotion and sincerity, which many viewers love about him.
After the premiere, “Silver Linings Playbook” had major critical success. It received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture from David O. Russell, four Golden Globe Award nominations with Lawrence achieving Best Actress, four Screen Actors Guild, five Independent Spirit Award nominations, and three BAFTA nominations.
Clearly, with all the success the film has received, “Silver Linings Playbook” is a must-see if you have not already seen it. It is the perfect heartwarming romantic-comedy for this upcoming February 14.
