The 2012 Monroe Township High School Boy’s Spring Track season is just about over. It has been a tough spring with very few individual team wins, but the team still worked hard and persevered for a strong finish during the Greater Middlesex County Relays. The season started in late February with Ms. Traci Rickert as head coach, and Mr. Marc Debelis and Mr. John Murphy serving as assistant coaches. The expectations were not incredibly high for this season since the seniors of last year were gone, but at the same time, many of the younger runners had a chance to step up and prove their quality. “This season was really tough at times for all of us on the team, but we had to keep on going despite all our struggles and I believe when GMC’s come around we will make a powerful finish,” said Desalvo. Indeed, these runners included junior runner Dmitri Mendis completing the mile in 4:41, senior sprinter Pedroy Kamara who ran a season best 100 meters in 11 seconds and 200 meters in 23 seconds, junior James Desalvo who achieved 30′ 9.00 in triple jumps, and senior Kevin Garcis who obtained 93′ 4.00 in the discus both during the Homdel Relays. “We should just forget about the losses we had this season and just be sure to make a strong push in the GMC’s like we try to do in every meet,” said junior Richie French. On the first day of the GMCs, Monroe’s sprinters finished first in their heat, and tenth overall with a time of 1:34.92. Runners included Anthony Aversano, Ahmed Othman, Ian Haney and Kyle Kaplan. Spectators will look on anxiously to see if Monroe can keep this up and continue to be the hard working team they have shown to be all season long.
