The best Christmas movies ever created

by BRIANNA SICILIANO Social Media Coordinator

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and it is finally time to get in the holiday spirit! Bake some cookies, enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate, sit down by the fire, and put on your television. Why put on the TV? Because Christmas movies are on!

Hundreds of Christmas specials have been created for this special season, and these programs are only aired for a certain period of time per year. Do not let that time go to waste! We all need some Christmas spirit in our lives, so grab your remote and enjoy the thrilling sensation these movies will bring!

There are so many Christmas films on during December, but some of them seem like a waste of time. There is a great number of movies that are incredible, however, so make sure you put these on your ‘to-watch’ list:

1. “The Santa Claus” (1, 2, and 3)! Honestly, if you want to feel like you are a little kid again, and you want to remember how magical Santa Claus truly is, these movies are the best films you will ever watch. Tim Allen does an incredible job playing Santa Claus, and I guarantee that you will NEVER be sick of watching these movies.

“‘The Santa Claus’ movies are my favorite Christmas films. They are not only magical, but funny, surprising, and thrilling as well!” said senior Giulietta Flaherty.

2. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is a must-see! The Grinch hates Christmas…he absolutely loathes it, almost as much as he loathes the Whos of Whoville. Watching the movie as a teenager brings a whole new perspective. You will notice as the film progresses how similar some of the Grinch’s sayings are to the sayings we use today. For example, at one point in the movie, the Grinch reads names (alphabetically, I might add) of Whos from Whoville, and each time he reads someone’s name, he screams, “I HATE YOU!” Kind of like what we do when going through our yearbooks, am I right?

“Even though I do not really relate to the Grinch on a personal level…, I absolutely love the movie ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ I have grown up watching this film and I cannot help but love that fun character,” said senior Hiral Patel.

3. “The Polar Express” is an under-appreciated movie. Sure, the characters look pretty creepy at first, but the movie has a great universal message. Everyone deserves to celebrate Christmas with cheer, and everyone deserves to be cared about by someone. Christmas is supposed to be about giving, right? Not necessarily presents (although we all seem to think so!), but about giving love and giving memorable moments to the people who need it most. I have not seen “The Polar Express” yet this year, but I will watch it soon, and you should, too!

4. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a Christmas movie that I have never seen, and a lot of you probably have not either! I have heard so many great things about this movie, and many friends and family have encouraged me to finally give in and watch the film. I suggest you all watch it, too! “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a classic film that tells the importance of family through the tale of a depressed and suicidal man who attempts suicide and sees what the lives of his loved ones would be like if he had never existed. This movie is especially great for teenagers to watch because while we grow up, we go through times where we feel unloved and unimportant. These feelings are not the truth, however. Each one of us is special and unique; we were born this way!

5. “Home Alone” is a big hit year after year. The film is about a boy named Kevin McCallister who is left home alone (surprise, surprise!) by his hectic family who forgets about Kevin while leaving the house and flying their way over to Paris, France for a Christmas family vacation. A group of burglars tries to rob the McCallister home, but Kevin outsmarts them and protects his home and all of its belongings while having some fun. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!

All of these movies (and the classic cartoons) should be on your Christmas movie to-watch list. What movie is your all time favorite Christmas film?
