The social media world blew up when the most-used social media app Snapchat came out with an update that caused a lot of uproar.
On February 12, 2018, Snapchat came out with an update that has extremely mixed reviews. Well… not really. Sorry to break it to you Snapchat, but this new update is horrendous.
Freshmen Neranjana Iyer said, “I feel that Snapchat has only made the app harder to use. I think that, in general, the way it’s all organized can be really overwhelming to people.”
On February 11, 2018, a user could open their Snapchat and their separate chats would be to one side. One could slide to the right to access the camera, and from the camera, one would slide right once again to view people’s stories.
The next day, users opened their Snapchat to find chats and stories on the same page. This point seemed to bother people the most.
A recent petition signed by 1.2 million people demanded the company come out with a new update that would switch the app back to how it used to be. However, Snapchat released a public statement that they will NOT be changing it back to how it used to be, despite these efforts.
Kylie Jenner has also made a public statement on her Twitter against Snapchat.
sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad. — Kylie Jenner (@KylieJenner) February 21, 2018
Freshmen Neela Voddi said, “I think that Snapchat should go back to how the app used to be because it not only has made them lose money but many people have stopped using the app.”
The update is essentially making using the app harder, which is not what the company wanted, nor is it what any company should want. An app should be designed so that anybody and everybody can use it. Snapchat should release a new update that brings back the old version of the app.
The update released may have some easier to use options but, in general, the app itself is just confusing.
Snapchat came out with the biggest update they have had in three years and, to be quite frank, it backfired on them. People are upset and taking to the Internet to vent their frustrations.
The new update has stopped me from being able to pre view my blue messages before opening💔couldn’t feel more snaked #snapchat — Melissa xx (@m_mellllll) February 23, 2018
I have honestly not watched 1 #snapchat story since the update 😱 — James Ashman (@jashman93) February 26, 2018
don’t have friends anymore thanks to Snapchat’s update. Plz go back to separate msgs & stories. Some of us like to cut the weeds and fertilize the greens. Doesnt mean we don’t make a wish on a dandelion sometimes. #bringitback #snapchat — Catie Pierson (@catiepierson) February 28, 2018
When the new @Snapchat update kills your motivation to even open the app and you lose your 470 day streak 💔 #snapchat — Lauren! (@Alohahazelnut) March 2, 2018
