Wrestling team ends with victorious season

by STEPHEN PISZAR Staff Writer

Monroe Township High School Varsity Wrestling Club has been nothing but prosperous this season with 27 wins and 6 losses. From the team’s regular season to individual tournaments and championships, the team never left any matches empty-handed.

The team as a whole always placed, not to mention individual wrestlers in their weight classes. During the Greater Middlesex Championship (GMC) Monroe as a team finished 2nd while junior wrestler Tom Tehan took 1st place.

Junior Sal Profaci placed 2nd, while senior Justin Gaffrey finished 4th with junior Joe Zargo right behind him in 5th place. Junior Chris Muce and senior Anthony Aversano took 7th place.

During the Regional Five (NJSIAA State Tournament Qualifier), Profaci took 2nd and Tehan took 3rd. This tournament is not for the team as a whole, but for the individual wrestlers. If the wrestlers can place high enough in the tournament, they will be able to advance to the state wrestling tournament to compete with the best of the best in the state of New Jersey.

“The whole team is full of studs; we practice and train hard and it pays off in the end,” said freshman Donny Albach.

The Monroe Wrestling Club did very well at the District 20 Tournament. The team as a whole took 2nd. The few wrestlers who placed, placed very high. Profaci again placed high, taking 1st along with fellow teammate senior Harrison Utter, who placed 2nd at the GMCs.

The coach of the “wrastling” team, Coach Daniel Lee, said, “Every single weight class has a wrestler who is much more than talented, and I have no doubt many of them will go all the way.”

The wrestling team has been very successful this year. Coach Lee is very proud of his team’s success and had nothing but great expectations for his team.

Do you think the wrestling team will bring anymore trophies home this season?
