The love of my life, Zayn Malik, made the worst possible announcement ever on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 – he is leaving One Direction.
It is not like I do not have my own life and problems anyway. I was just in the middle of doing my daily exercise of gluing my finger onto the refresh button on One Direction’s Facebook page when the news hit.
That fateful message read, “After five incredible years, Zayn Malik has decided to leave One Direction. Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue as a four-piece and look forward to the forthcoming concerts of their world tour and recording their fifth album, due to be released later this year.”
Freshman Caroline Albert says, “Why did Zayn leave? He was my favorite and made the group even more perfect than they already are, and now he is gone. This is ridiculous.”
I honestly do not know what this means for me. There has been absolutely nothing else I have listened to over the past five years than the four greatest albums ever made – “Up All Night”, “Take Me Home”, “Midnight Memories”, and “FOUR”. Malik’s angelic vocals on “More Than This” made that my favorite One Direction song, and now I will never hear it from him again.
The man himself says, “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right.”
I will always support you, honey, but come on! You had the life so many other people want, and you just threw it away!
There is nothing I like to do after a long day of school and work than come home and just blast the aptly-titled “Best Song Ever”. Now, I cannot do that anymore without thinking, “My baby is not there anymore! No!”
The post also says that other members Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles will continue as a quartet. How? It will never be the same, and they should not be betraying their friend in cold blood like that.
Sam Malik (as she wishes to be called) says, “They should not be continuing without the best singer out of them. One Direction really should go through a name change, stop their tour, and focus on this one problem as the entire world around us is obviously all doing.”
There have been bands in the history of music that have continued without an important member. Bands like AC/DC lost their lead singer, Bon Scott, and they still continued. Let us be honest, though – what is a AC/DC in reality when compared to One Direction?
Now the pop world has been turned on its head. Its biggest group is now a man down, and there is no doubt that the whole world will stop what they are doing and soak in the tragedy at hand.
Yet, Malik was being a bit mischievous as of late. He was caught being very lovey-dovey with a girl that is not his fiancée, Perrie Edwards. It does not really matter, because she is not as pretty as me.
I will have to deal with her personally if she pushed Malik to leave the group.
However, for the time being, Malik is gone from One Direction and the group is continuing without him. I will be extremely affected by this, and I can no longer live my life without this biting at me constantly throughout the day.
On a completely unrelated topic… happy April Fool’s day!
